Frequently Asked Questions
Micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance.
During this procedure, the Eclipse Micro-needling pen is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin.
Automated micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels through which topical gels, creams and serums can be penetrated deeper into the dermis to help improve the appearance of the skin.
Micro-needling can significantly reduce and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks
The Microneedling Pen can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
Initially, your skin care professional will apply topical lidocaine to numb the skin and ensure a comfortable and pain-free treatment.
Then, a thin layer of topical gel is applied and the pen is gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
The procedure takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the Microneedling pen setting used and the number of overlapping passes your skin care professional performs.
On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Many patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.
Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.
For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.
Platelet rich plasma offers an additional way to stimulate hair growth, especially in people who cannot use other forms of treatment. For example, it may be useful if someone is not a candidate for a hair transplant, or cannot use finasteride. It is also useful in the treatment of crown thinning where a hair transplant may not be appropriate.
It’s done during a simple office visit; about 30-45 minutes.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is known as a “natural filler” treatment that gives a more youthful appearance to the skin with minimal downtime. There are virtually no risks of allergies or sensitivity as PRP is derived from your own blood.
PRP is actually blood plasma containing high concentrations of platelets that stimulate stem cells to help the body regenerate and heal at a faster rate. PRP improves overall skin texture, decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, and plumps hollowing areas such as tear trough grooves, cheeks, and temples. PRP can also help smooth both acne and surgical scars.
Overview of the PRP Treatment
PRP Facial Rejuvenation takes about an hour to complete. A topical numbing cream may be applied 20 hour before the treatment to the treatment area to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Next 1 vial of blood is drawn and centrifuged to separate out a layer of concentrated plasma rich cells, platelets and growth factors. This layer is then extracted and injected into the skin using very fine needles. Patients typically experience mild stinging during the procedure. Injecting PRP directly into the tissue allows your body to absorb and fully utilize all the benefits of your extracted platelet rich plasma.
“Botox” -Types of Wrinkle Relaxers-(Botox, Xeomen, Dysport and JEUVEAU is a neuromodulator that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle.
It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. It’s the repetitious contraction of facial muscles that causes expression lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the neuromodulator relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the area.
You will see your results gradually over 3-7 days following injection.
Botox can be used to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften dimpling of the chin.
Botox can also be injected into the muscles of the jaw to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or TMJ or for a jaw slimming effect. Some of these treatment areas may be considered off-label.
Botox treatments are quick with minimal discomfort. The treatment requires no anesthesia or recovery time.
Many people get Botox during their lunch hours and are able to return to work right after their appointment.
The procedure is not considered painful. Most patients report a brief period of discomfort during the injection, which does not persist once the procedure is complete.
While the experience of each patient may differ, it usually takes 3-5 days to see the effects of Botox. For some, it may take up to 2 weeks to realize the final effects.
The results of Botox typically last between 3-5 months from the date of injection. Over time the body metabolizes the Botox, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treatment area.
Patients can choose to maintain their Botox results for longer periods by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.
Some patients may wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to try Botox. There is no right or wrong age to start using Botox. Patients should be evaluated and receive a consult by a medical professional prior to treatment.
Many millennials are starting to using Botox in their twenties when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles or as a preventative measure.
Botox is an FDA approved treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not receive Botox treatments.
Side effects from a Botox treatment may include bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness around the injection site, all of which will resolve without intervention after a few days to a week.
Patients usually see results in 3 to 6 months. However, the response time may be variable.
It works best where there is existing thinning hair.
